Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was born April 17 1985 in Le Mans France. Tsonga is a proffesional tennis player who until a couple years ago was practically unheard of, but is now famous. Tsonga started playing tennis when he was seven, inspired to be a professional like his father was at handball. He was great at tennis even at an early age, as a junior he reached a ranking of 69 and won the US Open title. He also reached the semi finals in three other junior grand slam events.
Tsonga's adult career started in 2007 when he was ranked 212 in the world and got into the 2007 Australian Open through a wildcard entry. Unlucky for him the first match of his year was against Andy Roddick an amazing player who was previously ranked number 1 in the world. However Roddick did not intimidate Tsonga as he went on to have the longest tiebreak in Austrlian Open History winning the first set 20-18. He ended up losing the match but considering he was only 21 at the time and versing such a great player he did fantastic. As the year progressed Tsonga continued to do great for a new player and by the end of the year was ranked 74 in the world moving up 138 places!
Tsonga still went under the radar for quite a while until the 2008 Australian open where he rose to fame when he managed to reach the semi-finals and beat the number two in the world Raphael Nadal. He then continued on to the finals where he lost to the number three in the world Novak Djokovic 1 set to 3 but still played fantastically. He is currently ranked 6th in the world and has many more tremendous achievements such as winning his first ATP Masters Series championship at the 2008 Paris Masters and has appeared in the semi finals of the 2010 Australlian Open, 2011 Wimbledon Championships and got into the finals of the 2011 ATP World Tour Finals where he lost to Roger Federa.
